KUCHING, June 12: National diving queen Datuk Pandelela Rinong Pamg has been made a unity icon of Malaysia, says Minister of National Unity Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang.
He said his ministry has made the efforts to invite legends in sports and leadership to become icons of unity.
“Recently, we have conducted a unity exhibition to promote icons such as actor P. Ramlee, so that the contributions of these legends can be promoted to the younger generation.
“We also have legends in sports and leadership whereby those who have left this world, we acknowledge them in museums or organise a memorial to them.
“We also have sports icon like our diver Pandelela Rinong, who we have included under our agency so that she can become an icon at the national-level,” he said in response to Sri Gading MP Aminolhuda Hassan in the Dewan Rakyat in Kuala Lumpur today.
The 29-year-old Sarawakian Pandelela was named the Sarawak Sports Youth Icon in 2016 and Yakult Sports Icon in 2017. — DayakDaily
