KUCHING, Apr 10: Congratulations to national diving queen Datuk Pandelela Rinong Pamg, who was appointed Student Volunteers Foundation (YSS) board member.
YSS views youth volunteering as a critical tool for developing student volunteer leaders, in line with the Malaysia Education Blueprint (Higher Education) 2013-2025, which emphasises a balance of knowledge and skills, ethics, and morality.
Pandelela expressed her gratitude for the opportunity in a post on Friday that was published on her official Facebook page on Friday (Apr 7).
She also made a commitment to carry out her responsibilities with compassion.
“Honoured to be a part of Yayasan Sukarelawan Siswa, will take this responsibility with compassion,” she wrote.
Additionally, hundreds of online users congratulated Pandelela on her appointment to the YSS board.
Sarawak-born Pandelela Rinong is well-known for her bronze-medal performance in the 10m platform diving at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
She also rose to fame as the first female athlete from Malaysia to win an Olympic medal when she finished third in the women’s 10m platform diving.
Her legacy continues to grow as she has become the most decorated Malaysian female Olympic athlete.
However, the four-time Olympian debuted at the world’s most prestigious sporting event in Beijing in 2008 at just 15.
Pandelela has also won numerous gold, silver, and bronze medals at international diving competitions outside the Olympics.
Despite her fame, the national diving queen comes from a modest family background. She was born in Kupuo Jugan, a village in Bau, Sarawak, home to the Bidayuh ethnic tribe.
We once more congratulate Pandelea’s appointment to the YSS board. — DayakDaily
