KUCHING, May 15: A search operation is currently underway to locate a four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicle that reportedly plunged into the river from Tun Salahudin Bridge late Wednesday night (May 14).
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Tabuan Jaya received the emergency call at 10.07pm and immediately dispatched a team to the scene.
According to a witness, the 4WD vehicle was spotted parked near the river-facing side of the bridge at around 10pm.
Within approximately 30 minutes, the vehicle suddenly accelerated forward and plunged into the river.
It was initially caught on a steel structure beneath the bridge before falling into the water.

As of now, details about the vehicle and the identity of its occupant(s) remain unknown.
Bomba divers conducted two dives, reaching depths of about 5.7 metres, but were unable to locate the vehicle. The search operation was suspended overnight due to limited visibility.
At around 8.15am this morning, traces of petrol believed to be from the vehicle were discovered on the water’s surface, approximately 10 metres from the last known location. This prompted divers to resume their search efforts.
The ongoing operation is being supported by Bomba Padungan, Marine Police Region 5, and the River Patrol Unit. — DayakDaily
