KUCHING, Jan 29: The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) are now in full force across Sarawak to assist and support victims of the ongoing flood and landslide situation, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas says.
Uggah, who is also chairman of SDMC, also said 16 temporary evacuation centres (PPS) are now activated across Sarawak to accommodate victims of these disasters.
“All our disaster management teams, by division and region, are on full alert and standby to face this situation.
“They are doing all the preparations, service, and supporting the evacuation.
“My advice to all the residents living in flood-prone areas is to standby and when there are instructions to evacuate by the rescue agencies or the disaster committee, they must move.
“This is necessary to save lives,” he told reporters during the Sarawak-level Chinese New Year (CNY) Open House 2025 at BCCK, here today.
“We have set up all the PPS across Sarawak to get ready (for flood situations like this) and we have alerted them a few months ago.
“The police, APM, Bomba, and all the agencies are making sure that flood victims are well taken care of at this moment,” he added. – DayakDaily
