SK Nanga Bena is already in a dilapidated state and needs to be rebuilt, according to Kapit MP Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi.

“I can’t imagine the fear and hardship that 30 students in this primary school had to face with the teachers and staff; facing the flood that came while they were sleeping,” he said in a statement today.

He further said that based on his observation, the school is in a dilapidated state and carrying out repair work is not enough to ensure a good learning institution for the rural students.

“SK Nanga Bena needs to be rebuilt. The original structure of this school, which was built in 1963, is no longer able to cope with the severity of natural disasters, should it happen again.

“The lives of children, teachers and staff here need to be given attention.

“The entire school building, dormitories and quarters that house students and teaching staff were destroyed by water in this flash flood,” he added.

Nanta had also announced an additional allocation of RM20,000 to aid the school for cleaning work and buying school needs. This follows the initial RM10,000 allocation which he had announced on Aug 25.

Pelagus assemblyman Wilson Nyabong Ijang is also contributing aid worth RM10,000 for the same cause.

“On this occasion, I would like to express a million thanks to all the teams involved in rescuing the flood victims at these two locations and helping with the immediate clean-up work.

“As an MP for Kapit, I will do my best to get the best school facilities for the children and teachers here,” he emphasised. — DayakDaily
