KUCHING, March 30: Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) will devise strategies to channel and ensure digital investment projects such as global business services, digital content, data centres and cloud services are implemented in Sarawak.

According to a news report from Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) today, Communications and Digital Minister Ahmad Fahmi Mohamed Fadzil said in order to attract data centre investment to Sarawak, Sarawak government also needs to play their role by providing facilities and incentives to investors.

“Currently, data centre investors will start with locations that have the highest demand such as the Klang Valley because it is the center of the largest economic activity in Malaysia, and Johor because of the overflow of demand from Singapore,” he said

Fahmi said this when answering the question from Senator Robert Lau Hui Yew in the Dewan Negara on Wednesday (March 29).

According to Fahmi, in order to turn Sarawak into a new data centre hub, there is a need to generate local demand and improve domestic and international connectivity infrastructure.

He added that MDEC is planning to establish its state offices in selected locations such as in Kuching. — DayakDaily
