Dewan Rakyat passes motion of confidence on Anwar as PM

KUCHING, Dec 19: The motion of confidence in support of Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim as Malaysia’s 10th Prime Minister has been passed in the Dewan Rakyat today.

The motion was tabled by Deputy Prime Minister Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof and seconded by the other Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Zahid Hamidi.

Fadillah (GPS-Petra Jaya), when tabling the motion, said it was important for the unity government under Anwar’s leadership to secure the support of the august House considering that the world economic outlook next year is expected to experience a recession.

“This will further strengthen the confidence of investors, the business community, and the people.

“The result of the support will inject determination for the unity government to continue to commit to providing the best service to the people,” he stated.

There were 13 lawmakers from both sides of the divide who debated on the motion.

They were Dato Seri Hamzah Zainudin (PN-Larut), Lim Guan Eng (DAP-Bagan), Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan (PAS-Kota Bharu), Dato Sri Doris Sophia Brodie (GPS-Sri Aman), Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee (PN-Beluran), Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani (BN-Titiwangsa), Ahmad Fadhli Shaari (PAS-Pasir Mas), Mohd Rafizi Ramli (PH-Pandan), Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan (PN-Tasek Gelugor), Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Jeffrey Gapari Kitingan (GRS-Keningau), Dato Seri Dr Shahidan Kassim (PN-Arau), Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad (PH-Kuala Selangor), and Datuk Seri Panglima Bung Moktar Radin (GRS-Kinabatangan).

The motion was then winded up by Dato Sri Azalina Othman Said (BN-Pengerang) after the Dewan Rakyat Speaker, Datuk Johari Abdul, announced the passing of the motion via voice vote. — DayakDaily
