KUCHING, Sept 8: The long-awaited implementation of the RON95 subsidy rationalisation will be announced at the end of this month, revealed Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan.
Amir, who is also the acting Economy Minister, said the government is working closely with oil companies to ensure their systems can effectively use identification cards (MyKad) during fuel purchases so that eligible groups are not affected, TVS reported.
“It is based on the use of identification cards as a mechanism to verify eligibility, and this will be applied across all petrol stations nationwide,” he explained during the Ministers’ Question Time session in the Dewan Negara today.
He was responding to a supplementary question from Senator Datuk Ros Suryati Alang, who asked how the government intends to ensure the RON95 targeted subsidy plan is carefully structured so as not to disadvantage the majority of eligible Malaysians.
Meanwhile, Amir said the Central Database Hub (PADU) will also support the initiative by helping to identify and verify eligible groups to ensure they continue to enjoy lower fuel prices.
“We guarantee that the majority of the rakyat will still receive the subsidies they are entitled to,” he assured. — DayakDaily
