GEDONG, Nov 11: The current Dewan Datuk Patinggi Ali here will be demolished to give way for the construction of a new hall modelled after the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).
Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the reconstruction project will be tendered in January 2024.
“We have decided to demolish the hall to build a new hall whose model is similar to BCCK.
“We will have a corridor for exhibition, and the hall inside the new building would be used to host weddings or ceremonies,” he said at a press conference during the TVS Prihatin programme in Gedong today.
Earlier in his speech, Abang Johari, who is the Gedong assemblyman, stated that he has directed his special representative in the constituency, Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais, to upgrade the hall with modern facilities, including air conditioning.
“We already have the drawing (architecture), and the tender will be issued in January next year. Insya-Allah, within 18 months, we will have a beautiful hall in Gedong,” he elaborated.
