BINTULU, Nov 3: Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) chairman Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Openg announces that about 7,000 units of affordable houses will be built in Jepak Jaya to cater for housing needs in Bintulu.

He said for the first phase of the Jepak Jaya residential area, 98 units will be built, and the project has commenced.

“This will allow us to provide affordable houses for the local community, and the prices will be much lower than the market price now.

“For this sort of bungalow house, the land I was told just now is about 10 to 12 points. These houses will be built, and our people will be able to buy these houses, which are properly laid out and well equipped with infrastructure under construction, including fast internet speed, for the whole area of Jepak Jaya.

“We have also planned to build another 6,000 units, including this (phase), about 7,000 units. This will meet the needs of Bintulu residents, where they may be able to possess houses which are much more comfortable and are set at a fixed price. I won’t disclose the price, but they will be affordable houses,” said Abang Johari after visiting two model houses erected at Phase 1 of the Jepak Jaya residential area at Jelutong.

He said the purpose of his visit was to look at the model houses, and he expressed satisfaction after the inspection. The stilted house, he observed, may be expanded by walling up and turning it into a double-storey house.

Abang Johari, who is also the Premier of Sarawak, said following the provision of infrastructure, the whole area, once completed, will allow villagers who are living in cramped and crowded villages to move in and own houses in well-laid out and spacious residential areas. — DayakDaily
