Devastation: Bodies of three missing teens recovered from Sungai Batang Lassa

DARO, Oct 17: The remains of three 13-year-old boys, who were swept away by currents while swimming in Sungai Batang Lassa, have been recovered.

According to Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak, the first victim’s body was discovered at 6.30am by ferry workers.

Upon this discovery, the search and rescue (SAR) team from Daro Station rushed to the scene for body identification.

The first victim was found approximately one kilometre away from the location where he had gone missing.

The four-member SAR team continued their efforts along the river and located the second body at 8.22am, about two kilometres from where he was last seen.

Subsequently, the third victim’s body was found and retrieved at around 9.05am, approximately four kilometres from the point where he had disappeared.

This somber incident drew villagers to the jetty as all the remains were transported back to land and handed over to the police for further action.

Two of the victims were residents of Rh Jelam, while one hailed from Rh Lawrence.

The tragedy occurred on Sunday (Oct 15), when four boys were swimming together in Sungai Batang Lassa. Three of them were swept away by the strong river current, while the witness and sole survivor managed to swim to safety but was unable to save his friends. — DayakDaily
