KUCHING, Dec 23: Widely recognised as a figure of authority, principle, and integrity, Deputy Sarawak Secretary (Administration) Datu Buckland Bangik consistently prioritised collective interests above personal gain, leaving behind a lasting imprint on the Sarawak’s civil service.
In a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news, acting Sarawak Secretary Dato Sri Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel said his exemplary work values and dedication will continue to guide and inspire all Sarawak civil servants.
“Throughout his career, Datu Buckland’s leadership not only motivated his colleagues but also set a high standard for generations of civil servants.
“Recently, he was conferred the Top Management Exemplary Officer Award, and I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Datu Buckland. His resilience, wisdom, and firmness, balanced with humility, are qualities we all deeply value,” he said at the ‘Gratitude of Journey Night’ event held at a leading hotel on Monday (Dec 22), organised to honour Buckland ahead of his retirement on Dec 31.
Reflecting on his contributions, Abdullah Zaidel described Buckland as an ‘elder brother’ who provided invaluable guidance in daily duties.
He often reminded colleagues to carry out responsibilities with honesty, maintain humility, and exercise firmness when necessary.
These principles, he added, should be emulated by every Sarawak civil servant.
“In my view, very few possess such a modest yet profoundly meaningful approach in their dealings with colleagues.
“To serve 37 years with sincerity alongside one’s peers is no small feat. The sacrifices and unwavering commitment demonstrated by him are exemplary qualities, rare in any profession,” he added.
Also present at the event were Chief Registrar of the Native Courts of Sarawak Datu Jonathan Lugoh, Administration Unit director Rusmaliza Mat Darus, Immigration and Labour Management Unit (ILMU) director Richard Lon, Sarawak Security and Enforcement Unit (UKPS) director Abdul Wahab Rahim, Sarawak Council for Native Customs and Traditions (MAIS) secretary Mackos Sibong, department heads, and other dignitaries. — DayakDaily
