KUCHING, May 11: The Unit for Other Religions (Unifor), in collaboration with the Unifor Charitable Trust and the Malaysia Buddhist Association Sarawak Branch (Mbasb), will organise the Sarawak Wesak Day 2022 celebration this Sunday (May 15) at the Sarawak Buddhist Association’s main temple on Jalan Tun Abdul Razak in Kuching.

According to a press release issued by Unifor today, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas will be the guest-of-honour.

The board of trustees of the Sarawak Unit For Other Religions Charitable Trust, as well as the heads of other religious institutions, have also been invited.

Among the programmes held in conjunction with the Wesak Day celebration are a blood donation campaign and the Buddha Bathing Ceremony, also known as “Buddha Bathing”, which will be performed by Buddhists.

“Due to the fact that our country is still in the endemic transition phase, the number of invited guests is restricted to 200.

“The purpose of the celebration is to promote brotherhood and the values of tolerance, mutual respect, and harmony among people of different races and religions.

“In the future, similar programmes will be organised in collaboration with other religious institutions,” Unifor stated.

Additionally, the organisers expressed their gratitude to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR), Kuching South City Council (MBKS), and TVS for their assistance in making this event a success. — DayakDaily
