KUCHING, Nov 17: Sarawak’s flag-raising ceremony at Dataran Ibu Pertiwi could become a tourist attraction similar to the ‘Changing of Guard’ ceremony at Buckingham Palace.

According to a news report from Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) today, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan suggests that the ceremony be held together with performances from ethnic groups in Sarawak.

“The ceremony should be held at a set time, so that the public can attend without needing prior notice.

“Just like the ‘Changing of the Guard’ at Buckingham Palace in London, it happens every day at a fixed time,” he said after attending the November edition of the Ibu Pertiwi Flag Raising Ceremony at Dataran Ibu Pertiwi here today.

He said by doing it at a set time, it will allow tourists as well as locals to be informed about the event.

He also said that for such ceremonies, there is a need for collaboration between all the stakeholders involved.

“Not only tourists, but the local community will also enjoy witnessing the diversity we have,” he added. — DayakDaily
