KUCHING, Dec 10: The Sarawak government has approved a sum of RM90.5 million for road construction in Kampung Medong Seberang and Kampung Kekan Seberang in Dalat.

According to a statement, Uggah, who also Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development (MIPD) said the tender for construction works would be called the latest by early January next year.

“This is a delayed project. Initially there were funds to cover only the construction of a bridge in this project. So what is the bridge for if there is no road?

“I recall when visiting the site last year with Dalat assemblywoman Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah, I saw folks venting their frustrations by writing comments on its sign board.

“This is understandable as its construction had been delayed for quite some time,” he said when officiating at the closing of Dalat Regatta 2023 (Pesta Bersaug Dalat 2023) in Dalat today.

Uggah added that other road projects which under the State in the 12th Malaysia Plan for Kampung Kekan Seberang, Kampung Kut Muara, Kampung Sungai Pinang, Kampung Bungan Besar, and Kampung Rassau are now in the preliminary design stage.

“When done, it would shorten the travel time from here to Sibu to about one hour through another link road from Rassau,” he added.

On the Dalat Waterfront Phase Three Project, he said, the government has also allocated a sum of RM4.964 million.

He also said that the project is at the design stage and the construction tender is expected to be called by the first quarter of 2024. — DayakDaily
