KUCHING, Feb 21: Deputy Premier Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian has suggested that the new Sri Aman Hospital be renamed Simanggang Hospital.

“New Sri Aman Hospital — some call it Sri Aman Hospital 2. Should we give another name to avoid confusion with the existing hospital?

“Wondering how about ‘Hospital Simanggang’ to reflect the change of name of the town?” said the Minister of Local Government and Housing in a Facebook post today.

Dr Sim was referring to Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg announcing that Sri Aman town is to be renamed ‘Simanggang’ in Oct 2019.

The RM200 million health facility, which started operations last year, offers seven specialist services — internal medicine, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, psychiatry, general surgery, orthopaedics, and anesthesiology.

On Feb 20, it was reported that the new Sri Aman Hospital successfully performed its first cleft lip surgery on Feb 17.

This drew Dr Sim’s attention, who said it was a testament to what the new Sri Aman Hospital could accomplish. — DayakDaily
