Deputy Premier: Shape Sarawak’s younger generation with integrity for corrupt-free future

KUCHING, March 6: The younger generation must be instilled with strong values of integrity to ensure that Sarawak’s prosperity and economic sustainability are safeguarded for the future, said Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian.

Speaking at the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) Sarawak Integrity Day 2025 at a hotel here today, Dr Sim emphasised that nurturing integrity among the youth is crucial in the State’s efforts to combat corruption and uphold good governance.

“We need to shape Sarawak’s younger generation with strong values of integrity so that the prosperity and economic sustainability we enjoy today can be passed down to future generations,” he said.

He further called on civil servants and government agencies to maintain transparency, accountability, and integrity in all public administration matters.

Dr Sim, who is also Sarawak Minister for Public Health, Housing, and Local Government (MPHLG), stressed that a clean government administration is vital to eliminating abuse of power, wastage of resources, and leakages of public funds.

Congratulating DID Sarawak for earning the Anti-Bribery Management System (ABMS) certification, he said the achievement reaffirms DID’s position as a model of integrity in Sarawak’s development sector.

He also urged for an open and transparent procurement process to ensure fair competition, better value for money, and increased efficiency in government projects.

“With the initiatives and commitment from DID in the fight against corruption, I believe it will increase people’s confidence and bring Sarawak to greater heights,” he added.

Also in attendance were MPHLG Deputy Minister Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee, Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman) Dato Murshid Diraja Dr Juanda Jaya, Sarawak Integrity and Ombudsman Unit (UNION) director Wan Mohamad Wan Drahman, DID Sarawak director Datu Ir Ts Ahmad Denney Ahmad Fauzi, Sarawak Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) deputy director (Prevention) Wan Ahmad Nidzam Wan Omar, and other invited guests. — DayakDaily
