“Key infrastructure projects, including the Pan Borneo Highway, the Northern Region Coastal Highway, and the Sabah-Sarawak Link Road, are currently progressing at a rapid pace.

“Sarawak is also upgrading its ports and airports while considering the establishment of a state-owned airline to enhance regional connectivity,” he stated.

Awang Tengah, who is also Sarawak Second Minister for Natural Resources and Urban Development, was speaking during the recent 6th Chief Ministers, Governors, and Local Government Forum (CMLGF) in conjunction with the 27th BIMP-EAGA Ministerial Meeting 2024 in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah on Wednesday (Oct 16).

The minister further emphasised the State’s focus on sustainability, particularly through clean energy initiatives such as green hydrogen and sustainable aviation fuel derived from microalgae.

In addition to the railway project, Awang Tengah, who also serves as Sarawak Minister of International Trade, Industry, and Investment (Mintred), called for stronger cooperation within the Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) to boost digital connectivity, noting Sarawak’s investments in high-speed internet, 5G infrastructure, and the Trans-Nusantara Optical Fiber Network linking Sarawak to Indonesia. — DayakDaily
