KUCHING, Nov 5: Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan has reaffirmed that Sarawak’s development policies are firmly aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), underscoring the State’s commitment to inclusive and sustainable growth.
In a statement issued after attending the National SDG Meeting in Putrajaya today, Awang Tengah said the principles of Sarawak’s SDGs are embedded in the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, which envisions Sarawak as a developed state by 2030, anchored on three main pillars — economic prosperity, social inclusivity, and environmental sustainability.
“To strengthen its implementation, the Sarawak Government has established the Sarawak SDG Committee as a strategic mechanism to demonstrate its commitment toward the global goals.
“The initiative aims to integrate all 17 SDGs into Sarawak’s policies and programmes to ensure sustainable and inclusive development across all sectors,” he said.
The Sarawak SDG Committee comprises a Steering Committee, a Technical Committee, and seven Working Groups focusing on economic growth, inclusivity and well-being,sustainable financing, education, Innovation and Human Capital, Environment and Natural Resources, SDG Localisation and Urban Development and SDG Local Action and Community Resilience.
Awang Tengah also highlighted that the Sarawak SDG Roadmap for 24 local authorities was officially launched on October 21, 2025.
“This action plan will be implemented in phases, beginning with the Padawan Municipal Council and Kota Samarahan Municipal Council, as part of efforts to localise SDG practices and strengthen community-based sustainability initiatives.”
He reiterated that Sarawak remains committed to driving sustainable growth, ensuring that economic advancement goes hand-in-hand with environmental stewardship and social inclusivity.
The National SDG Meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who called for closer collaboration between the Federal and State Governments to accelerate the achievement of Malaysia’s sustainable development agenda by 2030. The meeting served as a high-level platform to assess Malaysia’s progress in integrating the UN’s SDGs into national and state development policies. – DayakDaily
