KUCHING, April 28: Finally, after 60 years of being a part of Malaysia, Sarawak is now the centre of attention, says Deputy Premier Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian.

Dr Sim said this after listing out a few of Sarawak’s achievements, among many others, to substantiate his claims.

“This year is the 60th year of the formation of Malaysia. Sarawak is part of the original four countries in forming Malaysia.

“And interestingly, after 60 years, Sarawak is the centre of attention,” he said in a short clip posted on his social media page today.

He first cited the visit of German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier to Sarawak on Feb 18 this year as evidence that Sarawak has been attracting the attention of other countries.

The Health, Local Government and Housing Minister also brought up the fact that the Hong Kong Economics and Trade Asean Regional Office based in Jakarta had for the first time held a Chinese New Year gathering in Sarawak.

He continued by stating another unprecedented incident where Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg was invited by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during the latter’s official visits to Singapore and Brunei.

Of course, Dr Sim also did not forget to put on record Indonesia’s invitation to Sarawak to participate in the former’s plan in producing hydroenergy in Kalimantan.

Then there is the commitment of Singapore buying electricity from Sarawak, as well as the island nation’s investment of SGD8 billion in building submarine power source cable, he added. — DayakDaily
