KUCHING, Jan 30: The recent restructuring of Public Works Department (JKR) offices Statewide will enable divisional offices to better focus on their respective projects, says Dato Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.

The Deputy Premier said the move, effective Jan 1 this year, would provide each divisional office with more engineers and other technical staff as former regional offices had been redeployed to the divisional offices.

“The move will mean the capacity of each divisional office to take care of projects is greatly enhanced,” he said after attending a briefing on the status of development projects implemented in the Bintulu Division office today.

Uggah, the Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development (MIPD), added it would also be easier for the public and the elected representatives to know the implementation status as all they need to do is contact their divisional offices.

He hoped that with the restructuring, the issue of delayed projects would be minimised, and the department would be able to address problems faced by the people.

“I am very optimistic; for instance when roads were damaged by flood, erosion, and so forth, immediate action could be taken because the divisional office will handle these,” he said. — DayakDaily
