KUCHING, May 25: Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas has proposed a collaboration between the Betong Division Development Agency (BDDA) and Sri Aman Development Agency (SADA) to promote tourism in their respective areas.

Uggah said both Betong and Engkilili could utilise similar attractions such as the colourful Iban culture and traditions, handicrafts and pristine nature, including traditional longhouses.

“For Engklilli, the nearby Batang Ai Hydro Dam lake area and the unique ‘Batu Nabau’ (stone structure resembling a giant serpent head) and its legend are among the main attractions.

“For Betong, we will have the proposed Rentap’s fortress at Bukit Sadok as one of our top offers. The construction of the RM15 million project is expected to be tendered out soon,” he said in a statement today.

He pointed out that the Bebuling short-take-off and landing airport (STOLport) in Spaoh, which is scheduled to be completed by next year, would also help boost the connectivity for both areas and improve tourist arrival.

“The tourism sector is now full of potentials as new revenue streams for rural folks,” he added. — DayakDaily
