“Media and community organisations must report responsibly and highlight achievements in healthcare, education, research and social development.

“Accurate reporting allows citizens to appreciate the impact of state initiatives,” he said.

Dr Sim noted that the widespread use of smartphones and social media has enabled anyone to create and share news, but warned that misinformation and partial reporting could distort public perception.

“Communities and media must play their part in ensuring accurate information reaches the public,” he added.

He said Sarawak’s financial resources allow continued investment in development and assistance programmes, but public awareness remains necessary to assess their effectiveness.

Dr Sim called on media practitioners, community leaders and citizens to work together in supporting the Premier’s initiatives, to build an informed and cohesive society aligned with the state’s long-term development goals. — DayakDaily
