KUCHING, Nov 14: Sarawak has many natural places and beautiful nature that filmmakers can explore, says Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Snowdan Lawan.

Speaking at the Borneo Documentary Awards in conjunction with the 7th ASEAN International Film Festival and Awards (AIFFA) at the Borneo Cultures Museum today, Snowdan encouraged filmmakers to consider Sarawak as a destination for future film projects.

“Sarawak has a lot of places with beautiful nature. Maybe in the future you might think of doing a film here.

“For instance, New Zealand has places like that, but we also have nature, and you have a lot of places where you can make films in different genres,” he said.

He also thanked the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) for offering financing for Asian filmmakers for their post-production work.

“I understand there are two days of pitching at the Borneo Cultures Museum, so all the best to those who are joining.

“I believe that this initiative is a good start and maybe in the future the organisers can consider to invite buyers of documentary films to participate,” he added. – DayakDaily
