Deputy Minister: Mukah Hospital to be upgraded into minor specialist hospital

KUCHING, May 18: Mukah Hospital will be upgraded into a minor specialist hospital to serve the population in Mukah including communities in Mateding and Balingian.

Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government Michael Tiang Ming Tee said it is a long-term strategy by Sarawak Health Department (JKNS).


“The specialist services that will be provided in the Mukah minor specialist hospital includes general medicine, general surgery, pediatrics, orthopaedics, obstetrics and gynaecology (O&G), anesthesiology, emergency medicine, radiology, pathology and psychiatric,” he said at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) Sitting here today.

Tiang was replying to Balingian assemblyman Abdul Yakub Arbi’s query on whether the Sarawak government has a plan to build a hospital in Metading Service Centre.

He added, the proposed project will also be submitted under 13th Malaysia Plan (RMKe-13).

Meanwhile, Tiang said there is no immediate plan to establish a new hospital in Mateding.

He also said that Mateding community is currently receiving medical care at Mukah Hospital which is about 30km away. — DayakDaily
