KUCHING, June 19: Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing, and Local Government Sarawak, Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil, lauded Miri City Council’s (MCC) effort to improve the city through the Miri City Transformation Lab.
Penguang said the Sarawak government has been mindful and persistent in urging government agencies, from time to time, to upgrade their services so that their roles and functions are still relevant and not obsolete.
“One of the effective ways is to re-examine and re-visit their current roles and functions.
“Thus, the effort of Miri City Council in this particular aspect is commendable and likewise, other local councils could also look into such matters since among the government agencies, the local councils are the ones who are closest to the rakyat, and the ability to serve the rakyat efficiently will inevitably reflect the capability of the government,” he said during the launching ceremony of the Miri City Transformation Lab at MCC Lutong Community Library today.
He added that the lab or workshop would also enable stakeholders, especially those in the management and those at the upfronts, to be ready and well-equipped with a positive mindset for changes in their undertakings.
“It is a matter of paradigm shift of which the success of your strategic plan can be accomplished will depend very much on the people as whether they are willing to adapt to a new mindset and to face the radical change.
“However, under the capable hands of the experts, I have confidence that the objectives of holding the Transformation Plan Lab can be achieved,” he said. — DayakDaily
