KUCHING, April 23: The appointment of Zainal Abidin Abdullah as the first Sarawakian to be the chairman of Malaysian Timber Council (MTC) is apt, says Datu Len Talif Salleh.

The Deputy Minister for Natural Resources and Urban Development said Zainal has vast experience in the timber trade sector.

“This mean that his appointment as MTC chairman is consistent with MTC’s duties and responsibilities in expanding the industry throughout the country,” he said when met by reporters at his Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house in Demak Jaya today.

According to Len Talif, Zainal has previously served in Sarawak Forestry Department, before he was assigned to Sarawak Forestry Corporation in 2003.

He said Zainal is also currently the general manager for Harwood Timber Sdn Bhd.

“As a Sarawakian, he can also help to foster relations between Sarawak as a wood producing region with the federal government,” he added. — DayakDaily
