KUCHING, June 18: A detailed study on managing an airline is needed as it involves a large capital.
According to a news report from the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Office (Corporate Affairs, Information, and Sarawak Public Communication Unit) Datuk Abdullah Saidol said this is to ensure that the government’s responsibility to manage the airline does not interfere with its expenditure.
“Gabungan Parti Sarawak’s (GPS) intention led by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg to take over MASwings is in the hope that it would reduce the cost of flights, especially from Sarawak to Peninsular Malaysia,” he told reporters when attending the ‘Program Gawai Perpaduan 2023’ yesterday (June 17).
He said that airfares are always an issue during every festive celebration.
“I think this situation can, to some extent, help the underprivileged, especially the rural residents,” he added.
On June 15, Abang Johari revealed that Sarawak has agreed in principle to take over MASwings in its plan to establish the region’s own boutique airline. — DayakDaily
