BAU, March 31: The old Bau District Council office will be used to temporarily house Bau General Hospital’s Mother and Child Health Clinic as a short term alternative to help minimise congestion at the hospital.

In stating this, Deputy Health Minister Lukanisman Awang Sauni said the suggestion by Deputy Minister of Transport Dato Henry Harry Jinep was a welcome one.

“For Bau General Hospital, we are looking at both the short and long term measures, so moving the Mother and Child Health Clinic will be our short term measure.

“And for a long term measure, we want to build a Class III Health Clinic, which Bau is in dire need of,” he told reporters after officiating at the Health Awareness for B40 (Peka B40) event at Bau Civic Centre.

He added that Bau General Hospital will be provided with two dialysis machines.

According to Lukanisman, Bau is among the 16 districts in Sarawak and Sabah that are in need of Class III health clinics.

For Bau, he said it would be listed in the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) or the next rolling plan.

Separately, Lukanisman said the malaria cases in Ulu Baram are under control, with no spike in cases.

“The Health authority in Miri is monitoring the situation and it is under control, so don’t worry,” he pointed out.

Present at the function organised by Bau District Council was Deputy Transport Minister Henry, Serembu assemblyman Miro Simuh and Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang, among others. — DayakDaily
