SIBU: A decision will be made tomorrow to impose a lockdown on Covid-19 red zones areas.

Assistant Minister of Housing and Local Government, Dr Annuar Rapaee in his Facebook Livestream today said the Sibu Disaster Management Committee will propose to its state body on its decision to enforce a lockdown on Zone 7 (Jalan Tiong Hua) and Zone 15 (Sentosa) after the two zones recorded a spike in cases following active case detection (ACD) done.

ACD for Zone 7 took place on Feb 20 and 21while those for Sentosa were on Feb 22 and 23.

Zone 7 which is one of the 34 zones, recorded 19 more cases, bringing the total to 171 so far. Zone 15 had also seen an uptick with 19 new cases recorded on Wednesday, making the number to 112 cases.

“We are proposing for the lockdown and will announce it tomorrow. Tonight I will have a meeting with Sibu Resident, (Charles Siaw) to discuss our proposal,” he said.

Dr Annuar said the two places in Zone 7, Jalan Tiong Hua and Jalan Foochow had the most cases after active case detection was conducted on Feb 20 and 21 involving 1,207 samples.

Over to Sibu Jaya, he said there were 50 new cases today were 38 of them were from the lockdown flats.

“With 38 new cases at the lockdown area, it means that the case has not settled down yet and maybe because the first swab was negative while the second one positive. I uge flat residents to continue to follow the SOP,” he said.

Dr Annuar also warned that they will send people to the quarantine centre if they are caught not undergoing home quarantine after their swab test while waiting for the result.

On the Covid situation here, he said it is still a long journey to bring it under control.

“We will not surrender. We will fight until we are successful,” he vowed. – DayakDaily
