KUCHING, Sept 4: International participants from Indonesia, Brunei, and South Africa will join local cyclists in the 126-kilometre DBKU Road Race 3.0, set to take place this Sunday (Sept 7).
In a TVS news report, Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) Community Services Department deputy director, Rudzaimeir Malek, said the long-distance race has attracted 24 teams, comprising both local and international riders.
Each team features four to six cyclists, with the champion determined based on the average time of the top three riders.
“The participating teams include cyclists from Sarawak, covering Kuching, Miri, and Bintulu. We also welcome an international cyclist from South Africa representing the Bintulu team,” he said at a press conference at DBKU Headquarters today.
He added that the race format is similar to the Le Tour de Langkawi championship but is completed in a single day.
The race is scheduled to start from Tugu Pahlawan and finish at the DBKU Headquarters in Bukit Siol.
In addition to the team category, four other titles will be contested: King of the Mountain, King of the Sprint, Best Young Rider, and Best Individual Rider, with total prizes worth RM15,650.
DBKU Road Race 3.0 is held in conjunction with the 37th Kuching City Day celebration and is expected to become an annual event, cementing Sarawak’s status as a regional cycling hub.
