KUCHING, Sept 3: Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) praised the action of five individuals who retrieved the giant Ibu Pertiwi flag, which came loose from the flagpole at Ibu Pertiwi Square and fell into the Sarawak River.
“Well done, and thank you to the five unsung heroes who are the security guards on duty at Ibu Pertiwi Square for retrieving the Ibu Pertiwi flag that fell into the Sarawak River at about 11pm last night (Sept 2).
“Together, we deepen and embody the spirit of love for the country. This is the unity and spirit that we must show for the next generation,” said DBKU in a statement posted on Facebook today.
The statement also added that DBKU had changed the flag this morning.
The Ibu Pertiwi flag hoisted at Ibu Pertiwi Square here was reported to have fallen due to heavy rain and strong winds yesterday.
Local radio station Cats FM uploaded a 43-second video clip on its Facebook page yesterday, depicting the flag falling and landing at the waterfront nearby.
Not long afterwards, DBKU issued a statement, informing that they had received a report on the incident and that the flag would be changed. — DayakDaily
