DBKU deploys 64 CCTV ‘eyes’ on 17 poles across high-risk areas to boost city safety

KUCHING, July 1: A total of 17 poles equipped with 64 closed-circuit television (CCTV) units have been installed at strategic locations within the Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) administrative area, with operations commencing in phases under Phase 1 beginning Monday (June 30).

The initiative aims to enhance public safety and urban surveillance in key hotspots such as public areas, major roads, and locations deemed high-risk for security concerns.

According to DBKU, the installation forms part of its broader effort to reinforce the city’s safety through the Safe City concept, while also advancing the Smart City agenda by leveraging real-time monitoring technology.

Among the locations equipped with CCTV under Phase 1 include Taman Sukma at Jalan Sultan Tengah (Sukmaria hawker centre/E-Mart supermarket), SEGO traffic light junction, the Old Sarawak Legislative Assembly Building, Fort Margherita (Police Museum), Electra House, and the Boyan-Gersik waterfront area.

Other areas include several sections of Jalan Astana’s Botanical Gardens, the Hanging Bridge and Aneka Rasa food court, SJK Chung Hua No. 6, St Joseph Secondary School, McDonald’s Semariang, Jalan Dagok/Jalan Kulas Utara 2 intersection, and Jalan Merdeka’s bus stop near the Marzuki Building.

DBKU emphasised that the resumption of the CCTV system’s operation will be carried out in stages to ensure optimal functionality and reliability.
