“For this event, we are anticipating a large crowd to see the various activities that we already put in place, where the main attraction will be the ‘Dayung Sangon’ (beauty pageant),” said Dr Jerip, who is also the chairman of the organising committee, in a media conference at the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA) office at Kota Sentosa today.

The grand finale for the ‘Dayung Sangon’ will be held on June 8.

He pointed out that the Ministry of Education, Innovation, and Talent Development Sarawak, being the secretariat, will also have education talks and booths.

“For the education booths, several local institutions of higher learning have been invited, among them Centre of Technical Excellence Sarawak (Centexs),” said the Mambong assemblyman.

Apart from that, cultural performances showcasing the Iban, Bidayuh, and Orang Ulu communities and traditional sports will also be held, he said.

Adding to the fun, Dr Jerip also said that there will be a concert by local artistes from the Bidayuh, Iban, and Orang Ulu communities on the night of June 7.

He went on to say that the carnival will be similar to the recently concluded Gawai bazaar at MJC Batu Kawah but on a smaller scale.

“There will be 40 booths also selling handicrafts, food, drinks (halal and non-halal), and selling of local delicacies,” he said.
