KUCHING, Nov 13: DayakDaily has successfully organised its inaugural ‘Magnificent Sarawak: An Unforgettable Trip’ writing competition, which commenced from July 14, 2023 to Oct 6, 2023.
The competition served as an opportunity for Sarawakians to share their best stories about their most unforgettable trip in Sarawak in exchange for amazing cash prizes up to RM3,000.
Despite being DayakDaily’s first time organising such an event, it received 153 submissions, with 106 entries under the Adult Category (19 years old and above) and the remaining 47 under the Youth Category (12 to 18 years old).
To honour the support given by the Ministry and the participants to our event, a prize-giving ceremony was held at the Imperial Hotel here yesterday (Nov 12) with the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts (Creative Industry and Performing Arts) Datuk Snowdan Lawan as the guest-of-honour.
Also present were Principal Assistant Secretary of Arts, Culture & Heritage Dr Elena Chai, who represented the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts permanent secretary Datu Sherrina Hussaini; STB communication director Margaret Apau, who represented STB acting chief executive officer Yusfida Khalid; Imperial Hotel Kuching sales and marketing director Irene Tan; and DayakDaily chief editor Lian Cheng.
For the Adult Category, Alynsa Eryn Musa from Song won first place with a cash prize of RM3,000, a trophy, a certificate and a 3-day-and-2-night (3D2N) voucher at Imperial Hotel here.
In second place was Nur Hidayah Muhammad Nur Arshad Chupuong Abdullah, who bagged a RM2,000 cash prize, followed by Azia Farzana Badduwie in third place, who secured a RM1,000 cash prize, and Roger Teo Buan Chuan and Joan Dolly Chung Zie Wei for consolation prizes worth RM300. All winners also received a trophy and certificate each.
Meanwhile, Darren Wong Qin Hon from Chung Hua Middle School No. 1 won first place in the Youth Category, bringing home a cash prize of RM2,000, a trophy, a certificate, and a 3D2N voucher at the Imperial Hotel.
Alana Jane Wong followed this in second place with a RM1,000 cash prize, Howard Tiong in third place (RM500), and Nicole Toh and Tia Leonorra Puyang Romi Chai for consolation prizes (RM200 each). Each winner also received a trophy and certificate.
The writing competition was organised by DayakDaily, sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak (MTCP) and supported by the Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) and Imperial Hotel Kuching. — DayakDaily
