KUCHING, Dec 29: DayakDaily is once again launching its annual initiative to collect children’s books and soft toys from the public to be donated to the children in rural Sarawak.

For the year 2024, all books and soft toys collected will be transported to Long Latei in Ulu Baram and handed over to Telang Usan assemblyman Dato Dennis Ngau in mid-March next year.

The handover will be held in conjunction with DayakDaily’s annual D’Drift Trip scheduled for March 11 to 20.

“Bless Rural Children with Your Books & Soft Toys” is a collaboration between DayakDaily, Pertubuhan Wartawan Bebas Kuching (Pewarta), and Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak).

For this campaign, we are honoured to receive assistance from two local malls namely La Promenade Mall in Kota Samarahan and Plaza Merdeka, who would be providing space for DayakDaily to set up a book collection corner in their premises.

The book collection corner will be available at La Promenade Mall from Jan 9 to 31, 2024, and at Plaza Merdeka from Feb 1 to 29, 2024.

Soft toys to be donated to the Sekapan children in Belaga.

Meanwhile, members of the public may also drop off their donated items at DayakDaily’s office located at TT3 Plaza during office hours. A dropbox will be available at the stairway until Feb 29, 2024.

To those who have well-maintained books or soft toys which have been occupying storage space or gathering dust, please consider donating them to help with the set up of a rural library in Ulu Baram.

To ensure the highest quality and safety of donated soft toys or stuffed animals, we kindly request that they are without any missing parts or pieces, free from stains or smells, and thoroughly cleaned before contributing.

We also kindly ask for children’s books suitable for ages up to 18-years-old. Middle-grade novels, graphic novels, unused colouring books, educational booklets are all welcomed.

Your generous contributions will bring smiles, ignite imaginations, and empower the young souls in Ulu Sarawak through the magic of storytelling.

Bless rural children with your second-hand books!

In 2022, DayakDaily launched its inaugural second-hand book collection campaign and successfully delivered over 1,000 books to SK Lusong Laku for the Penan children.

This year, in August 2023, DayakDaily handed over 1,000 storybooks and two big bags of soft toys to the Orang Ulu community in Ulu Belaga. — DayakDaily
