KUCHING, Nov 29: A special Dayak Salako Rara conference will be held this Saturday (Dec 1) to discuss community development and modernisation in line with current global challenges.

The one-day conference, to be held at Dewan Masyarakat Kampung Tebero in Lundu, aims to strengthen and empower the Salako Rara community to participate in economic activities in line with current technological advancements.

“This conference is a continuation from the recent Dayak conference at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching on Sept 17, catering for the many in the Salako Rara community who were not able to attend. They feel that the issues raised during the recent conference should be discussed with the people, where the majority lives in Lundu.

“With this conference, we are looking to open the minds of the people towards a more mature thinking society to develop the community,” conference chairman Major Pahot Joll said in a statement.

He added that the conference looked to strengthen relations and ties within the Salako Rara community to create more educated and knowledgeable individuals. It is also to shape the future direction of the community and to preserve its culture and heritage.

“There are six topics relating to current issues faced by the Salako Rara community that will be raised and discussed during the conference, including social, academic, culture and heritage, economy, native customary rights (NCR) land and socio-politics.

“For a start, the topics will be presented according to the expertise of the speakers and participants,” he continued.

Pahot expressed hope that the conference would open a new chapter within the community, strengthen unity and produce future generations of Salako Rara that are prepared to be competitive in the global stage and achieve success in line with modern global trends. — DayakDaily
