TEBEDU, July 4: A 37-year-old woman was found dead while her 65-year-old mother sustained second-degree burns in a house fire that occurred at Jalan Tebedu, Kampung Tubih Batu Raung, this morning.
In a report from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), a call was received at 12.29am, and firefighters from the Serian station were deployed with assistance from the Siburan station.
According to the report, the incident involved a permanent single-storey house measuring 48 × 70 square feet, which was destroyed by the blaze.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze using two 300-foot hose lines with one nozzle each and one 100-foot hose line with one nozzle.
The older victim sustained second-degree burns to her face, neck, back, hands, and soles of her feet and was taken by villagers to Serian Hospital for treatment before firefighters’ arrival.
As for the deceased, identified as Nurul Farhana Amerudin, she was found burned to death inside the bathroom and was handed over to the police for further action after being extricated.
The cause of the fire and the estimated losses are still under investigation. — DayakDaily
