KUCHING, March 20: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has warned Apple users to update their iOS devices immediately after the discovery of multiple security vulnerabilities, including a critical exploit chain known as “DarkSword” that specifically targets iPhones.
In a statement yesterday (March 19), MCMC said Apple has released a vital security update to address these vulnerabilities, which, if exploited together, could compromise devices and allow unauthorized access or other malicious activity.
“Users are therefore strongly advised to update to the latest iOS version to ensure their devices remain protected,” it added.
The commission cautioned that unpatched devices may be exposed to serious risks, including unauthorized access to personal data, installation of spyware or other malicious software, theft of messages, files, or other sensitive information, and even potential monitoring or surveillance.
MCMC urged users to enable automatic updates, avoid suspicious websites, install applications only from the official Apple App Store, restart devices after updating, and remain alert to any unusual behaviour.
It also emphasised the importance of practising safe digital habits and relying solely on information from official sources. — DayakDaily
