KUCHING, Aug 15: DAP Socialist Youth (DAPSY) Sarawak has lodged a police report against Umno Youth chief Dr Muhammad Akmal Saleh over his alleged role in leading a provocative march outside a hardware store involved in the recent national flag display controversy.
According to DAPSY Sarawak, the action amounted to “targeted bullying and intimidation” towards the shop owner, who had already issued a public apology for the incorrect display of the Jalur Gemilang, with police investigations still ongoing.
“By taking matters into his own hands and staging a public show of force right outside the premises, Akmal has not only disrupted but actively interfered with the police investigation.
“Such behaviour serves no purpose other than to create unnecessary conflict, generate fear and exert pressure on an already cooperative business owner,” the party said in a statement today.
DAPSY Sarawak further accused Akmal of attempting to “incite social disharmony and heighten racial tensions” through deliberate provocation, warning that such actions could threaten peace and unity.
“This is not the conduct befitting of any elected representative.
“Leaders should inspire understanding, inclusivity and respect, not fuel hatred, hostility and mistrust,” it added, describing the act as “political extremism, devoid of responsibility”.
The youth wing urged authorities to take “immediate, firm and decisive action” against divisive and extremist behaviour, stressing that failure to do so would set a dangerous precedent.
“This moment calls for enforcement of the law without fear or favour, sending a loud and clear message to all: divisive and extremist behaviour has no place in Malaysia,” the statement read.
