KUCHING, Jan 15: Democratic Action Party Socialist Youth (DAPSY) Sarawak has lodged a police report calling for an immediate investigation into Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) over its alleged receipt of RM1 million from former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

DAPSY has suggested the contribution could be linked to funds misappropriated from the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) sovereign wealth scandal – a high-profile global corruption case in which billions were allegedly siphoned from state investment funds.

On Dec 26, 2025, Najib was found guilty on all 25 charges linked to the 1MDB scandal, including four counts of abuse of power and 21 counts of money laundering. He was sentenced to long-term imprisonment and fined over RM10 billion.

“Against such a clear and established judicial background, SUPP’s receipt of RM1 million from a former prime minister who has been fully convicted by the courts cannot be justified, nor can it be casually dismissed as a mere ‘political donation’.

“SUPP owes the people of Sarawak a clear, full and transparent explanation, rather than remaining silent or attempting to divert public attention,” DAPSY Sarawak said in a statement today.

DAPSY Sarawak stressed that the fight against corruption and the pursuit of clean politics must never be subject to double standards, stating that any political party or individual involved in financial dealings with a person who has been convicted of corruption by the courts must be subjected to full legal and public scrutiny.

“The police and all relevant enforcement agencies must act in accordance with the law, independently and without fear or favour, to thoroughly investigate this matter, deliver the truth to the people and safeguard the integrity of Sarawak’s political landscape,” it added.

The police report follows a statement by Sarawak DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen on Jan 11, urging authorities to probe the matter in the wake of Najib’s recent convictions. – DayakDaily
