KUCHING, April 15: Sarawak Democratic Action Party Socialist Youth (DAPSY) in collaboration with Kuala Lumpur City College are offering Diploma in Retail Management scholarships to Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) leavers in the State.

Sarawak DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen said the scholarship programme will help SPM graduates to liaise with the College to take up the Diploma whereby school fees will be fully sponsored and the accommodation will be provided.

“On top of that, students who take up this programme will be paid monthly allowance of RM1,000 to RM1,200,” he said during a press conference held at DAP headquarters in Kuching today.

Meanwhile, DAPSY member-cum-special assistant to Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong Wui Wui, George Lam elaborated that student applicants must have 3 credits in SPM for the Diploma course.

Those with only 1 credit in SPM can also apply for a 2-year Certificate in Retailing course while those with non-credit in SPM can apply for the English Proficiency Programme.

He explained that the scholarship involved a 2.5 year course with all the tuition fees borne by a sponsor guaranteed by the College. The sponsor-to-be will be one of the retail chain businesses in the country, for instance, Giordano, Ichiban Boshi, Lenovo and TGI Fridays.

George also invited interested school leavers to join a Zoom meeting with the College representatives this April 24 at 3pm held at DAP headquarters in Kuching to learn more about the enrolment application.

This is because one of the requirements for the course is that the students must prepare a pre-recorded introduction video to woo the employers in sponsoring their scholarships. – DayakDaily
