DAP’s Chong wants MPKS to expedite clean-up of ‘car park-turned-dump site’ at Taman Desa Ilmu

KUCHING, Oct 22: Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) chairman Chong Chieng Jen has called for Kota Samarahan City Council (MPKS) to expedite the cleaning process for a dump site behind shophouses at Taman Desa Ilmu Lorong 22M1, Kota Samarahan.

According to Chong in a statement today, at the request of a shop owner in the area, he went to the place to look at the situation yesterday (Oct 21).

“Although the area is outside my constituency, it is a shocking sight. The car park is now a rubbish dump site with maggots crawling out of the rubbish dumped on the floor, flies flying everywhere, and the stench in the air is unbearable.

“There was a wooden hut which was supposed to be a resting hut but is now filled with rotting planks and bags of rubbish,” he said.

Chong said since August this year, the shop owner has lodged a complaint with MPKS through the State government’s one-stop complaint email, Talikhidmat, and got the reply that the matter has been resolved.

He pointed out that, in actual fact, on the ground, no improvement was made.

“Not only had the shop owner lodged the complaint, one Penghulu Tan and another Kapitan also submitted their complaints, but the rubbish remained rotting and was piling up at the car park space,” said Chong.

Chong said he has written to MPKS to request for the rubbish to be removed and the place to be washed and cleaned, including putting in place a bigger rubbish bin and increasing the number of rubbish collections per week.

“I also urge Dr Sim Kui Hian, being the Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government, to pay more attention to his duties under his ministerial portfolios.

“Out of the three ministerial portfolios he is holding, this ‘car park-turned-dump site’ shows a neglect of two of his ministerial portfolio, which are public health and local government,” he added. — DayakDaily
