DAP will continue to assist schools in Batu Kitang despite not being in ruling govt

KUCHING, Dec 1: Opposition party Democratic Action Party (DAP) will continue to provide assistance to government schools in the Batu Kitang constituency despite not being in the ruling government.

DAP Batu Kitang chairman Abdul Aziz Isa said he will provide anything that is necessary for the development of education in the constituency.

He disclosed that DAP has contributed a total of RM101,750 to three schools in Batu Kitang, namely SK Batu Kitang, SK Sacred Heart Semeba and SK St David Bumbok over the last three years.


Today, Abdul Aziz also handed over four cheques totalling RM35,000 to the three schools.

The recipients were SK Batu Kitang’s Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) which received RM10,000, SK Sacred Heart Semeba’s PTA which received RM10,000), SK St David Bumbok School Management Board (LPS) which got RM10,000 and SK St David Bumbok’s PTA which got RM5,000.

The contribution of RM10,000 to SK St David Bumbok LPS is for upgrading the Supplementary Food Programme or Rancangan Makanan Tambahan (RMT) room while the RM5,000 to SK St David Bumbok’s PTA is to upgrade the cooperative’s room.

During his visit to SK Batu Kitang, Abdul Aziz said he received additional requests from the school’s headmistress Rassidah Ahmat Sahari to repaint the school’s two buildings and to upgrade the school’s football field.

“The cost to repaint the school’s two buildings is estimated to be around RM75,000 and the cost to upgrade the football field is estimated to be around RM100,000.

“Once the two requests have been approved, the projects will be awarded to a few contractors based on an open tender system so as to ensure transparency and accountability,” he said in a press statement today.

Abdul Aziz revealed that DAP had allocated RM38,250 in the past to SK Batu Kitang for various purposes namely repainting the school’s administration building (RM33,000), religious activities (RM3,250) and upgrading the school’s garden (RM2,000).

Apart from that, he said DAP has also sponsored other non-financial assistance to the school such as food banks, 20 school bags and 20 boxes of face masks that benefitted 212 pupils and 23 staff.

As for SK Sacred Heart Semeba, Abdul Aziz said he received requests to build a multipurpose hall, install covered walkways connecting the classrooms to the school’s canteen, upgrade the toilets, fund a mini library and build a jogging track.

Abdul Aziz assured the school’s PTA that the political party will assist with the cost of their requests.

He added DAP had also allocated RM15,500 to SK Sacred Heart Semeba in the past for various purposes namely for an annual grant for its PTA (RM10,000), funding the school’s activities (RM5,000) and installing the school’s signboard (RM500).

Besides, Abdul Aziz who is also Sarawak DAP Socialist Youth Stampin chief said DAP had sponsored other non-financial assistance such as school bags for 121 pupils and face masks.

He disclosed that DAP had allocated RM13,000 to SK St David Bumbok for various purposes namely upgrading the cooperative’s room (RM5,000), mini museum (RM5,000) and for science classrooms.

The political party had also sponsored other non-financial assistance to the school such as food banks, school bags for 121 pupils and 20 boxes of face masks. — DayakDaily
