KUCHING, Oct 13: Respecting the decision of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Sarawak, Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak will not contest in the Jepak by-election.

The Jepak seat has been assigned to PKR Sarawak under the Pakatan Harapan Sarawak coalition.

“DAP Sarawak will respect the decision of PKR Sarawak not to contest in the Jepak by-election as this is the seat assigned to PKR under the PH Sarawak coalition and PKR Sarawak has indicated that it will not contest in the by-election.

“As such, DAP Sarawak will not field a candidate to contest the by-election,” said DAP in a statement today.

DAP Sarawak released a statement following its State Committee meeting held today to discuss and finalise some pertinent matters.

“Notwithstanding this decision, we will continue to play our part as a constructive opposition and act as checks and balances in the Sarawak state legislative assembly to ensure policies by government are properly implemented and more importantly bring direct benefit to the people of Sarawak as a whole,” it added.

The Jepak seat was vacated following the death of its incumbent Datuk Talib Zulpilip on Sept 15.

The polling date for the Jepak by-election is Nov 4, with nomination day on Oct 21. Early voting will be held on Oct 31. — DayakDaily
