KUCHING, July 6: Due to overwhelming response from the public, Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak will offer an additional 100 free rides for Covid-19 vaccine recipients to their respective vaccination centres (PPV).

Its chairman Chong Chieng Jen said Covid-19 vaccine recipients who need to travel to the PPVs but did not have transport can contact him or DAP service centre to arrange for the free ride services.

“As there are many requests from the public, and to assist the taxi industry, we have decided to increase the rides to 100 people.

“Initially, we limited it to 100 trips.

“We appreciate the taxi drivers who are cooperating with us in providing the services,” he said during a live stream session here today.

He disclosed that members of the public can contact him at 017-2288221, his special assistance Michael Kong at 013-8199191, Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong at 016-8898544 or DAP Kuching Service Centre to arrange for the free transportation to PPVs.

Three weeks ago, DAP Sarawak launched an initiative in collaboration with Kuching Taxi Owners Association to provide free transportation for 100 Covid-19 vaccine recipients who needed transportation to PPVs.

Chong said the initiative was to assist taxi drivers whose incomes were affected by the Covid-19 pandemic besides helping the government to accelerate the nationwide immunisation programme.

“We are working together with the taxi association in Kuching to provide free transport for members of the public who have got appointments for their vaccination but do not have transport to go to PPV.

“We believe the initiative will assist the taxi drivers while at the same time provide transportation to the public to get vaccinated,” he said then. — DayakDaily
