KUCHING, June 15: Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak is launching an initiative in collaboration with Kuching Taxi Association to provide free transportation for 100 Covid-19 vaccine recipients to reach vaccination centres (PPV).

Its chairman Chong Chieng Jen said the initiative is to assist taxi drivers whose incomes were affected by the Covid-19 pandemic besides helping the government to accelerate the immunisation programme.

“We are working together with the taxi association in Kuching to provide free transport for members of the public who have got appointments for their vaccination but do not have transport to go to the PPVs.

“We believe the initiative will assist the taxi drivers while at the same time provide transportation to the public to get vaccinated.

“Although the state government provides some financial assistance, the taxi drivers are still finding it difficult to make ends meet,” he said during a livestream session on his Facebook page today.

Chong disclosed that the political party started off the initiative with 100 persons, adding that the initiative will be continued if more people require the services.

Covid-19 vaccine recipients who need transportation to PPVs can contact him, Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong, his special assistant Michael Kong, DAP Batu Kitang branch chairman Abdul Aziz Isa and former Stampin MP Julian Tan to make arrangements for the free transportation. — DayakDaily
