DAP man wants authorities to resolve drainage woes at Jalan Datuk Tawi Sli

A small drain at the affected property at Jalan Datuk Tawi Sli is not helping to prevent floods.

KUCHING, Jan 18: Special assistant to Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) chairman Chong Chieng Jen, Michael Kong Feng Nian, is urging the authorities to look into a drainage problem at Jalan Datuk Tawi Sli which has been ongoing for many years.

He said the property adjacent to the site had been earth-filled before they were developed.

“With that, the (affected) property has become the lowest lying land here and when coupled with the close-to-non-existent drain, this would mean that the property is prone to flooding,” he said in a statement today.

Kong also said he was informed that complaints had been lodged with the authorities through Talikhidmat on numerous occasions but the drainage issue has never been resolved.

“At times, the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) contractors will only come after receiving such complaints but will only do a bit of grass-cutting.

“Even this issue was made known by the residents to MBKS mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng personally but it was simply brushed aside,” he claimed. — DayakDaily
