KUCHING, July 8: The construction of a steep slip road exiting Lorong 30 at Jalan Stutong Baru needs to be reconsidered.

Michael Kong Feng Nian, who is a special assistant to Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) chairman Chong Chieng Jen, in a statement today said the planned slip road exiting Lorong 30 onto the newly constructed Jalan Muara Tuang/Jalan Stutong Baru road has approximately 6 feet elevation than Lorong 30.

According to him, the elevation difference will result in an extremely steep slip road, which is similar to the slip road from Ee Ann City at 7th Mile onto Jalan Penrissen (outside the Siong How store at 7th Mile).

“Due to the steepness, cars will exit Lorong 30 slowly, creating a hazardous situation, especially considering the fast-moving traffic on the straight road ahead,” he said.

In the same statement, Kong said the current Jalan Muara Tuang to Jalan Stutong Baru junction project by Public Works Department (JKR) is not feasible.

He asserted that although it creates better access, Lorong 30 which is a small and narrow road is only wide enough for one vehicle

“Creating a two-way traffic flow at the junction of Lorong 30 and the newly constructed Jalan Muara Tuang/Jalan Stutong Baru road is unfeasible,” he added. — DayakDaily
