A road stretch along Jalan Batu Kawa which is regularly affected by ponding problems which pose risks to road safety.

KUCHING, Oct 19: The persistent ponding problem along a certain section of Jalan Batu Kawa regardless of weather conditions has gotten so bad that it now poses a significant threat to road safety, according to Michael Kong,
a special assistant to Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak chairman Chong Chieng Jen.

In a statement today, Kong demanded Public Works Department (JKR) take immediate action to address the road hazard to ensure the safety of all road users.

“The public has repeatedly voiced their concerns and implored the authorities to address this dangerous situation.

“The fact that numerous fatal accidents have happened there, particularly at night when many vehicles lose control, makes this problem much more serious. It is highly likely that the uneven road surface plays some role in these accidents, and this issue urgently calls for an in-depth investigation,” he said.

The DAP man has also escalated this critical issue to JKR Sarawak, stressing the immediate need for action.

Kong expressed his disappointment and deep concern that despite repeated complaints, the issue remains unattended to.

As such, he also urged Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, who is Batu Kawah assemblyman, along with the Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) team, to place more efforts and urgency on addressing this pressing matter.

“As responsible representatives, it is incumbent on us to ensure that the concerns of our constituents are addressed effectively and efficiently.

“The safety and well-being of our citizens should always be our utmost concern, and the authorities must act swiftly to mitigate potential risks to their lives,” he added. — DayakDaily
